We were delighted to actually be able to go ahead and run our summer school again this year, after the success of last year’s show in a week “The X Factory”.
But with the restrictions of the current world, of course this year we knew things would have to be different as we cannot dance as a group easily, we cannot sing and we need to observe safe distances and in bubbles.
So our socially distanced summer school this year isn’t performing a show, instead we will be putting together a short film, written by the kids and in the theme of the lock down. What is it called? Well of course “The Show Must Go On!”
For the first day we were pleased to welcome back both faces form last year’s show and also students who haven’t had face to face classes since before Easter. It was lovely to have them all and our teachers and helpers back to; Miss Natasha, Miss Vicky, Miss Rebecca, Miss Maddie and Pete.
We started the day with some warm up games, before explaining to the children what this year’s week will be about. And so the morning was spent with the kids starting to get their creative juices flowing writing their sections of script for the video.
After lunch and another couple of warm up games, we started rehearsals for the choreographed part of the video – no spoilers at this point though!
Then we finished the day with one of our favourite mime games. The kids split into teams and had to do three mimes to represent a film – and the teachers joined in as well!
Day 1 seems to have gone well. We look forward to seeing all the kids back again tomorrow as we continue to write the scripts, start to think about how they will be performed on camera and continue to rehearse the big showpiece of the film too. And of course, there will be time for some more games as well!
